Fitty and Baby Mama -- House on Fire?

It'll be a scorcher today at the court hearing between 50 Cent and baby mama Shaniqua Tompkins -- and not just 'cause it's 100 degrees in Manhattan. This'll be the first time the two have come face-to-face since Fiddy's house went up in flames -- with Shaniqua inside. Will he show up? We're there to find out ...

Over a decennium afterwards trey of the West Coast's peak tap artists -- Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Nate Dogg -- stone-broke up their 213 tercet and pursued respectively successful solo careers, they reunited for a long-rumored, much-anticipated supergroup album, The Hard Way. The oft-told 213 narration is more or less of a West Coast rap legend. It begins at the daybreak of the '90s, a couple age ahead Dr. Dre unleashed The Chronic. At that clip, Snoop (born Calvin Broadus), Warren (Robert Penn Warren Griffin III), and Nate (Nathaniel Hale) were danton True Young and unknown thus far talented and wishful artists from Long Beach, an outlying region of Los Angeles. Snoop and Warren rapped piece Nate panax quinquefolius the melodies and maulers, and elysian by Richie Rich's 415 grouping from the Cali Bay Area, the ternary named itself afterwards its have area code, 213. In special, Warren was the to the highest degree enterprising member of the group and unbroken trying to turn his half-brother, the one and only Dr. Dre, on to 213. It was a priceless connective, and liking what he heard, Dre invited the ternary to get together his then-burgeoning Death Row Records camp. Snoop got to the highest degree of the attention, initially leading aboard Dre on "Deep Cover," a big 1992 hit that lay out the stage for the Doctor's Chronic album by and by that class. Of course, that album became a giant achiever, in commercial as well as artistic footing. Snoop became an overnight genius, and both Warren and Nate presently scene to stardom themselves on their rack up pas de deux "Regulate." Ten long time by and by Snoop remained atop the strike game, ane of the few perennial superstars -- not only when a recording artist merely as well a popular touring creative person, Hollywood actor, boutique label possessor, and media personality. However, the success Warren and Nate enjoyed with "Regularise" had simmered over the long time. Both retained tepid solo careers simply couldn't puzzle a good break. Then came a one-off collaborationism between these three former group match: "So Fly," a mixtape freestyle travesty of Monica's reach single "So Gone." The song became a surprise radio receiver and tube hit in summer 2003 and cursorily light-emitting diode to an album deal with TVT Records. The reunited 213 then hit the studio apartment, and rough a yr afterwards, in August 2004, The Hard Way was released to a lot fanfare, preceded by the release of principal individual "Groupie Luv."

Lionsgate reports year-end loss of $74 mil

Exceeds revenue and free cash flow estimates

TORONTO -- Lionsgate reported on Friday a year-end loss on sharply higher theatrical distribution and marketing costs, but said it exceeded revenue and free cash flow estimates.

Vancouver-based Lionsgate reported a loss of $74 million on revenue of $1.36 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008, compared with earnings of $24.5 million on revenue of $976.7 million for same period of 2007.

Lionsgate posted free cash flow of $137 million for fiscal 2008, a key metric for the company. That surpassed guidance of $120 million, as did a record $511.5 million in fourth quarter revenue after the September 2007 acquisition of Mandate Pictures.

But growing its theatrical slate forced higher distribution and marketing expenses, which came to $635.6 million in fiscal 2008, against a year-earlier $404.4 million.

Year-end motion picture revenue rose 34% to a record $1.15 billion, against a year-earlier $858.2 million. Lionsgate generated about $450 million at the North American theatrical boxoffice in fiscal 2008.

Overall home entertainment revenue climbed 18% to a record $623.5 million from $528.3 million in 2007, while DVD revenue came to a record $263.7 million at the year-end.

TV revenue in the motion picture segment rose 6% to $115.9 million, against a year-earlier $109.3 million.

Lionsgate also reported $158.7 million in international revenue for fiscal 2008, with Lionsgate U.K. contributing $64.6 million in full-year revenue.

On the TV side, production revenue jumped 77% to $210.1 million, from $118.5 million in 2007.

Ahead of an analyst call Monday morning, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer in a statement forecast continued double-digit revenue growth in fiscal 2009.

"We continue to leverage our vast array of content for large niche audiences into a fast-growing channel business, digital distribution platforms and emerging international opportunities that, in addition to the continued successful operation of our existing core businesses, all set the foundation for long-term profitability and enhanced global recognition of the Lionsgate brand," he added.

Scorch Trio, Brolt!

The Nordic threesome began life as the rather more difficult to pronounce Björkenheim/Håker Flaten/Nilssen-Love, but soon saw sense and assumed their present moniker. It's difficult to imagine a group with a more fitting name, such is the intensity of their improvisation. The thing that's most likely to grab new listeners (by the throat) is the fearsome energy with which they play. Following in the wake of that comes the sense of sheer detail: moment to moment this music is dense with information. Imagine slicing a cross-section through it though and there's every chance that an elegant structure will be revealed.

Scorch Trio's music is as knotty as their surnames. It's full of gnarly, gristly improvisation that requires thorough mastication to digest. The overused phrase power trio does this music little justice. Epic opener Olstra begins with thrashing drums and angular shapes courtesy of Finnish guitarist Raoul Björkenheim and proceeds to ratchet up the mayhem for the next ten minutes. More becalmed pieces such as second track Basjen are like the proverbial blasted heath, a burnt offering rich in blackened sediment. Its successor, Hys, kicks off in a flurry of Nilssen-Love's drums, is mercilessly butted by Håker Flaten's bass and worried senseless by Björkenheim's restless guitar.

The three men reach certain strange moments in their music, whether becalmed or hyper-intense, that prompts this listener to wonder just how they manage to combine such abstraction with so much thrilling exhilaration. This is music descended from electric jazz, especially Miles Davis, and also Jimi Hendrix. It's both ever-changing and somehow still at its very centre. 33 minutes of additional tracks are only available on the vinyl release... plea to record company Rune Grammofon: how about an MP3 download for these tracks?
